Dear Sir/Madam
This is to confirm that Mr. Carlos Quiroz is a Peruvian/Canadian writer of narrative fiction whose work has been recognized by the winning of a literary competition in the United States. Among the members of that jury was Prof. George Woodyard who has served as chair of the Department of Spanish, Director of the Institute for Latin American Studies, and Vice-Rector of the University of Kansas In Lawrence, Kansas.
I’m the Director of the School of languages, Literatures and Comparative Literary Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa, as well as an owner of Girol Books Inc which, besides serving as a retailer and wholesaler of Spanish books, is a publisher of theatre books, literary criticism, and fiction; some of the latter being devoted to multicultural publications.
Approximately two years ago we received a manuscript of a novel from Mr. Quiroz. After having read it and spoken with him at length, we proceeded to apply for a grant in aid of publication. Due to the merit of the manuscript and after a rigorous jury process, the application was successful. We are now in the process of preparing the manuscript for publication, which we expect to be completed in the near future.
In sum, this all serves to underline the tact that Mr. Quiroz is a serious person devoted to writing about his cultural heritage, including both his nature Peru and his adopted Canada. We sincerely hope that this letter helps you come to an understanding of Mr. Quiroz’s background and any particular situation in which he may find himself at the moment.
Sincerely yours,
Prof. Peter Roster
